Homemade apple crisp is always a yummy family favorite and this quick and easy apple crisp recipe will help you make it in a snap! It’s great for unexpected company!

Here's a delicious quick and easy apple crisp recipe. Apple crisp is a yummy family favorite and a great alternative to apple pie when you just don't have enough time to put a complete pie together. Just keep the ingredients in your pantry for a fast dessert when unexpected company shows up.

It’s also a nice addition to any family dinner and kids and families love it. Apple crisp makes an easy after school snack and great potluck dish. I often use dehydrated apples if I have them on hand. Just boil the dehydrated apples in some water and then when softened drain off the water and use instead of pie filling.

Ingredients

Units

1–2 handfuls of gingersnaps or sugar cookies
2–3 Tbsp. all purpose flour
1/4–1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup quick cooking oatmeal
cinnamon (to taste)
3–4 Tbsp. butter
1 can apple pie filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Place 1-2 handfuls of gingersnaps (these cost about $1 at the dollar store) or sugar cookies in a plastic bag.
  3. Crush them and add flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, cinnamon and enough butter to make it crumbly. (The measurements don’t have to be exact. You can just dump everything into the bag and gently mix it together.)
  4. Pour 1 can of apple pie filling into a pan (or make filling from your favorite apple pie or apple crisp recipe).
  5. Sprinkle the oatmeal mixture on top of the apple pie filling.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes or according to your own recipe.

Notes

  • You can also mix all the topping ingredients except the butter and store in bags or jars, ready to use when you need something fast. (You can use the same bag you crushed the cookies in.)
  • For a quick gift, put together a basket, bowl, pan or bag with a bag of the topping mix, a can of apple pie filling and this apple crisp recipe.

Oh thank you so much Claudia that is so sweet of you to let us know. Had to chuckle when you said you don’t even like to cook/bake. I know the feeling. In my “old” age now I am starting to not like cooking as much myself. : )

I used sweet apple cider instead of water. Wow, more apple flavor! But, in these times, water is certainly fine too! I’m 60 plus and learning every day. Thank you for your videos and recipes!

I make the apple crisp at least 4 times a year. My husband and I remember eating that when we were kids in school. Now I share it with others thanks to you and this great cookbook. (The snickerdoodles are the same, only those are made 6X a year in double batches:) I just made the apple crisp for us and a neighbor family. Thank you for all the great recipes!

Hi Patti how are you doing? : ) I don’t get to chat as often with you guys since I am on the live stream so much and really miss it. I love apple crisp too. These recipes are all really good but my all time favorite and the one I usually make is my grandma’s recipe and it is a little different than most and much easier. Here it is in case you might want to try it sometime.

      Grandma’s Apple Crisp

      6 apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup firmly packed white sugar
      3/4 cup flour
      6-8 Tbsp. soft butter
      1 tsp. cinnamon

      Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Arrange apples in well greased baking dish
Mix remaining ingredients -Spread evenly over apples
Pour 1/4 cup water over top
Bake 45 mins until apples are tender and top crisp
