1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup water, warmed (110º – 115ºF)
1 cup milk
6 Tbsp. margarine
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
7 cups flour, sifted
2 Tbsp. margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Dissolve yeast, 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar and salt in water. Scald milk and add 6 Tbsp. margarine and 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Cool.
Add eggs. Add 2 cups flour to the yeast mixture. Beat until smooth.
Add the milk mixture to the batter and stir in the remaining flour. Knead to make a smooth dough and place dough in greased bowl. Cover and allow to rise to double the bulk.
Divide dough into 4 sections and roll each 1/2 inch thick. Spread each section with margarine. Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins.
Roll jelly roll fashion and cut into 1/2 inch slices. Place cut side down in two greased 9×13 inch pans. Allow to rise until double (about 1 hour), then bake at 350º F until golden brown (about 20-25 minutes). Cool and frost with butter cream frosting. Makes 2 dozen.
