This looks like a fun and simple recipe, which I appreciate. I’m a single mom, so I don’t have a lot of time to find a ton of ingredients. The recipe is something I could put together quickly and have a tasty meal. Thank you for sharing on Frugal Friday. :)

I tried this to the T. But the chicken’s cooked after 30min. Am i doing anything wrong? The temp is also correct.

I am not sure Chona because this is one of our most popular recipes and most people don’t have trouble with it. Did you use chicken fryer pieces or something like boneless skinless chicken breasts. That may have made the difference because those are much thinner and take way less time to cook.

Came across this recipe the other evening while looking for a different way to make chicken. It was simple and actually very tasty. I used boneless breasts instead of fryer pieces because that’s what I had on hand. I lightly coated them with plain bread crumbs (dipped chicken in water first to moisten a bit) and also sprayed the baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking. I definitely would make this again and I think I will double the sauce mix to have extra.

You probably could but with so few ingredients you would probably spend more time messing with getting it put in a container and making room for it in the freezer than you would just taking the 2 mins. to mix the ingredients together to pour on it.

LoL!!!! now you tell me as it’s in the oven that I am making for a freezer meal. That makes a lot of sense.
Can’t wait to try it once it is out of the oven.

You could cut the cooking time by about 15 mins. Once again bake until brown and tender. Recipes often say this because there is so much difference in ovens temperatures, the thickness of the meat and even the pan you cook it in can make a difference.

I was disappointed. I thought it would be more thick than it was . In the pan was alot of liquid. I used chicken breast and doubled the sauce maybe I shouldn’t have

This post couldn’t have come at a more opportune time! I just got back from the store where they had a package of 12 chicken thighs on mark down for quick sale for $3.00 (cook or freeze by tomorrow). I do believe I’ll double the sauce ingredients to cover all of the chicken pieces and this will be what we have for supper tonight and will have left-overs in lunch bags tomorrow. Thank you for sharing!

You can do this in the crock pot without any difference in the ingredients but it doesn’t get brown like it does in the oven. Since you need to bake it the same time and all you may as well do it in the oven because it uses less electricity by doing it in the oven (many people don’t know that it does take more electricity to do something in a crock pot). So you either put it in the crock pot on high for an hr plus or in the oven at 350 for an hour plus and in the oven you would have it nice and brown with a slightly more roasted flavor too instead of the sort of boiled flavor you can sometimes get in a crock pot

How can this cost $3? 6 pieces of chicken would be at least that much, then adding the other ingredients if you don’t already thave them would cost probably another $8 or $10. Rgardless, this looks like a winner, and I will defintely try it!

Actually I got 8 pieces of chicken the other day for about $2.80. The margarine would be about $.13 and the honey about $.75. Of course these prices depend on where you live, if you get thighs or the breast meat etc. – there is no way we could ever get an exact price for every where in the world – we just give a general price for most people’s average. If you live in New York City prices will be much higher than say in Kansas. We assume most people know that. The main thing is we are giving you tips and ideas on how to save in general and foods that are less expensive

Hi Jill,. Sorry if I was misunderstood. I was adding up the cost of purchasing all the ingredients at one time, not just the portions used for the recipe. But I see your point that it depends on where you live and also what brands you would buy, etc.

Question, do you have ideas about how to use the leftover drippings? I was stumped because of the mustard…thanks!

No problem Angela. I really would much rather talk in person to people that texting or answering comments like this because things do tend to get confused in the “translation” sometimes. As far as the drippings go the main thing I would use them for is to pour over the rice if you serve it with rice and as a sauce on the chicken. Otherwise I am not sure. Maybe some of our readers would have some more ideas for you. Hope this helps a little

It depends on the thickness and size of the chicken – anywhere from 20-30 mins. Just check them after 20 mins – when the juices are running clear they are done

I just made this tonight! I only had a small jar of honey I’m saving for medicinal use, so I used my home canned dandelion jelly which has a mild honey flavor and it turned out amazing. The chicken was moist and flavorful. Perfect time for 5 chicken bone -in thighs and 3 legs. Thank you so much for a great budget-friendly recipe! God bless, Robbin
