Jello Ideas – Quick Dessert Or Bake Sale Item

Jello Ideas - Quick And Easy Dessert

Jello is a classic quick and easy dessert that everyone loves! Here are some easy jello tips and ideas to help you make and use it easier!

Jello Ideas – Jello Makes A Great Quick and Easy Dessert!

If you need a quick dessert and don’t have a thing on hand, make some Jello. (Most everyone has a supply of Jello.)

If you need it fast instead of adding the cup of cold water like the package says, add 1 cup of ice cubes and stir for a minute or two, dissolving the ice. The ice cubes won’t completely dissolve but that’s okay. Just keep stirring until the Jello thickens a little. Remove any little bits of ice then place the Jello in the refrigerator so it can finish gelling. The Jello thickens twice as fast as when you use just water and will be ready by the time the meal is over.

Don’t toss the ice cube pieces that are left over. Give them to the kids. My brother and I would fight over who got the ice from the Jello because the ice tasted so good with that little bit of Jello coated on it.

Serve with whipped topping or with cut fresh fruit on top. Even a simple cookie would be a nice addition.

Also, if you need something easy and different for your school or church bake sale, make different colored Jello and put it in paper cups to sell.

Another cool Jello treat is to replace half of the water with ice cream then let it set up. Oh yum.

With Jello the possibilities are endless.

Jill

I just love that idea of using some ice cream in the jello mixture. Sounds so yummy I’m going to make it this weekend.

I like to use cold juice in place of water to add some food value/vitamins to the jello. For example, orange juice with orange jello or grape juice with grape or black cherry jello. This is especially good if you have just a little juice left and want to use it up. Another good one is to add applesauce to the jello in place of the cold water.

I made jello twice this past week using a cup of ice cream for the cold water. This is such a good recipe. I made strawberry jello and added black cherry ice cream for the cold water and it came out so berry tasting and delicious. Then I made orange jello and added teaberry ice cream and that was really good too. Those are the ice creams I used because those are what I already had in the freezer and they came out really good and different. Kind of like a mousse on top. The ice cream comes to the top and makes a two toned jello dessert. This is now one of my favorite ways to make jello. Thanks Jill.

Jill, I made lime jello and added 3 fresh mint leaves to the boiling water while it was cooking and then added it to the mix, and it is so good. A spearminty lime jello is so refreshing.

Jill reading this blog and your cookbook for the last few years has made me think differently. You and Tawra are the inspiriation behind the creativity. THANKS. And the spearmint/lime jello is good.

My aunt made a wonderful dessert when I was young. Make your orange jello by the package directions. when partially set, mix in a can of drained fruit cocktail. When completely set, top with cool whip and shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Yes, cheese! It is fantastic. My aunt actually cooked topping with Dream whip, some of the fruit cocktail juice, and other ingredients, but to save time I modified it to using cool whip. Unfortunately my husband does not eat jello at all, and my children never cared for this, so I don’t have it much anymore, maybe if I need to take a dish to a potluck.

Sounds really good. You are right Rachel, cheddar cheese is good in jello recipes. One of my favorite recipes has cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, sweetened cond. milk in lime jello.

Here’s a another tip for Dream Whip. Add a package to homemade ice cream for an extra creamy texture.

Jill, I thought you might like this recipe.
    White Jello Mold Recipe
    8 ounces cream cheese, softened
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 envelope Knox gelatin
    1/3 cool water
    1 cup milk
    1 cup thawed Cool Whip
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp lemon juice
Soften gelatin in 1/3 cup cool water, then heat to boiling, stirring till dissolved. Set aside. Beat softened cream cheese and sugar till fluffy. Fold in milk, vanilla, lemon and gelatin mixture. Mix well. Add Cool Whip, mix, and refrigerate till set in mold. Remove from mold, place on dish with lettuce and some type of greenery. Great for Christmas.

Bea you do come up with the most unusual, very different but always good recipe. This sounds like it would be perfect to dress up with different colored berries or like you said if you need a “veggie” salad with the lettuce and would be pretty and different for Christmas. I forgot it is Thurs. Hope you are enjoying your day off.

Yea, I went to the farmers market and bought a big pumpkin for $2 and some fruit. I want to make a pumpkin pie and some roasted pumpkin seeds. The weather has been like Fall in the evenings and it’s getting me to think of the holidays. I like Fall.
The recipe I gave you looked interesting to me when I found it and using berries like you said sounds interesting for Christmas.

It is 92 and humid today but I think this is going to be our last summer day thank goodness. The rest of the week it will be middle 70’s and low 80’s so it looks like the hot won’t be coming back. I can’t wait for fall either and I do love it too. I get to catch my breath from the heat of summer and the cold of winter. You got a great deal on your pumpkin. We don’t have much in the way of a farmer’s market in our area. There is only one way up north and it is way way more expensive then any place else and most of the stuff is of really bad quality.

Jill, I tried to reply but not sure it took. I like the idea of the berries for Christmas with that recipe. Since you like cream cheese I thought you might like the recipe. When I found it I thought of you. Today I went to the farmers market and bought a big pumpkin for $2 and some fruit. I want to make a pumpkin pie and roast some seeds. With the cooler weather in the evenings especially, I’ve been thinking of the Fall which starts soon. Did you see the “Harvest Moon” last night? They said on the news it was out and will probably be the same tonight if you didn’t see it.

Our weather here has been in the high 60’s and low 70’s and 40’s at night. It gets cold at night. I’ve been using my oven to bake to warm the apartment up a little. Take the chill out of the air. I want to make a pie either Friday or over the weekend. Did you know that you could roast a whole pumpkin at 350 degrees for an hour and a half to make it ready for a pie? You just put the whole thing in a baking pan and take a long knife to make about 6 slices into it and then bake the whole thing. When it’s done you slice it, take out the seeds and then mash the pulp after it cools a little.

I didn’t know that. I have always cut mind up but this sounds like it might be an easier way to do it. Wish I had known this a couple of years ago. Tawra got about 10 giant pumpkins for free which I hauled from Colorado to cook and dehydrate. That was a job with so many of them.

All those FREE pumpkins was a GREAT DEAL. Yeah, just wash the pumpkin, put about 6 slashs in it with a long knife and bake it. When its done its VERY easy to cut into half, remove the seeds and mash the pulp for pies and muffins etc. I love to do it on a cool day because it helps to make the apt feel cozy.
I’m glad Fall like weather is coming. I hated that heat and humidity. I know what you mean Jill. Hope you and your grandson saw the “Harvest Moon.”

I got an ear full on the phone this morning with him telling me all about it and how “cool” it looked. He is really into all that stuff, big telescope and all, and he blows my mine how much he knows about it. It is really interesting though. I saw a science thing once that showed how perfectly balanced our solar system is compared to anything else in the universe. How the sun is just in the right spot and if certain of the planets weren’t in the orbit they are in how much it would hurt earth and all kinds of cool things. It was showing how scientifically there is no way the big bang theory could be turn because of how perfectly place and lined up everything is.

I love your blog! One thing I do with Jello is to use yogurt instead of the cold water when I make it. This is so yummy and adds nutrition.

It a rarity that groceries are bought atthe store. We go to the food back weekly. What alot of people pass us, I just get my WWWII cookbook out [or pc] and find a way. I got a whole box full of various Zucunni, Squash, Apples, carrots, onions, etc. Soup, freezer, applesauce etc. I remember Mom and grandma standing in the kitchen when I was a kid, and I was invited to help with the 6 cases of various fruits and veggies. I learned alot and my freezer is full to capacity!

I love to take small left over pieces of fruits, veggies and protien, use my food dryer and then pput them in a jar.
When ever I open can of veggies, I keep some of the juice aside until it accumplates enough for broth for soup. Then I add anything, even the dried items. When My Love comes home from work, Dinner is on. Honey I taste a raisin? Adds a different flaver!
With left over fruit juice or canned fruit, I use for Jello! My Love never knows what he has to ear, but the flavor.
I just found out, to peel onions and garlic, cut and put in the dryer, then pulsate it to make powdered garlic or onion. you can add salt to make garlic/onion salt. Time consuming but better than the store bought and penny’s on the dollar! See you in the kitchen!
