Easy Russian Tea Recipe

Easy Russian Tea Recipe

This Russian Tea recipe is something different to give as a gift, rather than the usual hot chocolate mix. It’s also great to keep on hand for a nice hot drink on a cold winter’s morning when you want something tasty and hot that’s not the usual coffee or chocolate!

Easy Russian Tea Recipe

1/2 cup Tang (powdered sweetened orange drink)
1/4 cup instant tea (not sweetened)
1/4 cup powdered lemonade or 1 small pkg. lemonade Kool Aid
3/4 cup sugar
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Mix all of the ingredients. When you’re ready to use the Russian tea mix, add a couple of heaping teaspoons of the mix to a cup of boiling water.

I like to double or triple the recipe, so I have plenty on hand. It is great to put in jars and to give as gifts!

This was my favorite hot drink a few decades ago. A friend of mine had gotten married and I loved visiting her (we were only 19, so going to her “married household” was a real treat).
She was always trying new recipes for easy low cost dinners, she and I both LOVED baking, and she got this recipe from someone. Seeing it in print was nostalgic. I may make a batch of this mix today!

This drink sounds wonderful but here I am going to sound silly….what is “instant tea”?

It is like instant coffee. You don’t have to brew it. You just add it to water and it dissolves instantly. No leaves or anything like that. You can buy it at any grocery store or walmart and it is with the other tea items. Here is a picture of just one brand to give you an idea.
