Great Ways To Use Baking Soda

I can’t believe this great baking soda tip from Liz. I was frantically helping Tawra clean her house one day before the reporters came and couldn’t get these red and black marks off her fridge.

The whole time I was taking the man’s name in vain who came up with the idea of finger proof fridges and decided to put texture on the outside, which is even harder to clean! Dumb idea.

Anyway God showed me a means of escape before I sinned more by thinking more bad thoughts about the poor man and I remembered baking soda and used it on the fridge. It worked great so I was tickled to get Liz’s tip today and will try it on my tub next.

Baking soda does a great job on those ceramic/glass top stoves also – instead of the expensive cleaner that comes with them to start with.

I have a glass stove top that I will have to try it on. I have a square brown cloth that is a scratchy pad that I use on mine now which works great but they are hard to find and I am always afraid it will wear out and then what will I do? So the baking soda sounds like a good substitute. Jill

I love baking soda. I use it for many uses but one of my favorites is in my dishwasher. If I have some tupperware dishes that have any red stains I put baking soda in the extra dispenser area and they always come out perfectly clear.

Baking soda has lots of uses, I have lots of allergies and my skin breaks out and is very itchy. I take a bath with about 1 cup of baking soda added to my bath (don’t let the water get too hot) too hot water can make it worse, then (PAT) dry, don’t rub to dry off. You can go to
    armhammer.com and check it out!

I use a little baking soda and vinegar when I wash clothes. he baking soda softens and takes away odors-especially mildew from towels, etc. Vinegar degreases and takes out oil stains. use baking soda mixed with a little water to clean carpet spots.

My latest use for baking soda is for my hair. When washing my hair, after putting the shampoo on, I take a handful of baking soda and rub into my hair and lather. I then rinse this off and put the second lather of shampoo and conclude with my conditioner. The baking soda intensifies the cleansing of the hair and your hair will feel squeaky clean without stripping the needed oils from your hair.

I use baking soda all over the place for cleaning, but my favorite use is as an antacid! It is THE only thing that will keep my heart burn/sour stomach at bay when I’m pregnant. I’ve tried numerous otc antacids but a little baking soda in water is THE only thing that relieves my discomfort.

    Jane’s got the right idea
I’ve used about 2TB baking soda the same way for over 30yrs now. It removes all traces of hair products that can weigh hair down after awhile; plus my hair ends up incredibly soft and silky too.

The only thing I do differently is: If my hair is very dirty/oily I wash with shampoo 1st then add the baking soda to the 2nd wash.

Note: the 1st time you do this …the combo of hair product residue, shampoo & baking soda will cause a reaction that makes if feel as if you have a head full of shaving cream lol. Not to worry, it rinses out well.
Make sure you use a conditioner after doing this

Look at how much money you’ll save not having to pay a fortune for the products that remove hair product residues.

I don’t see the tip for cleaning your tub that you mention in your article…can you share that? thanks! I need to get the residue build up off the tub & thought I’d give it a try :)

    • All you do is just rub some baking soda on what you are trying to clean with a damp rag then rinse it off. I use Dow bathroom cleaner for residue on tubs but you can also try vinegar. Another thing too is if you keep having really bad build up and are using bar soap sometimes if you change to liquid soap this will help the build up. Plus if anyone takes a bath make sure that even the guys use a little bubble bath in the water or I would use just Ivory dish soap. You can get inexpensive jugs of bubble bath though at wal mart. I have never had to wash out a ring around the tub just because I always use these.

  • I use Jill and Tawra’s no-poo shampoo recipe using baking soda and water. It works wonderfully. Then I do a vinegar rinse and I have very silky, soft hair. This way I only need to “shampoo” 2-3 times a week and just wet my hair under the shower water on the inbetween days.
