Jill, I thought you might like this recipe.

    Ice Cream Cone Pie
1 cup slivered almonds, coarsely chopped (about 4 ounces)
12 sugar cones (4 ounce box)
    1/2 cup chocolate chips
    5 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 quart ice cream, any flavor

    9 inch pie pan

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place almonds on baking sheet and toast, stirring occasionally until lightly browned, about 10-12 minutes. Cool completely. With a rolling pin crush cones into small pieces between a dish towel or sheets of waxed paper. Do not use food processor. Place almonds and chopped cones in medium-sized bowl. Stir chocolate chips and butter in small heavy saucepan over low heat until melted. Pour over cones, stirring to coat evenly. Press one third of the crumb mixture evenly over bottom of pie pan. Spread half of the ice cream over it. Repeat with 2 more layers of crumbs and ice cream, ending with crumbs on top. Press down with hands to help them adhere. Cover with foil and freeze until firm. The pie may be frozen up to 1 month.

This would be a really good and different dessert for this summer. Of course with chocolate in it it is good for anytime – what was I thinking?

Here is my ice cream cake recipe. It’s been our favorite birthday or special occasion dessert:
    1/4 melted butter
    30 crushed oreo cookies
    1 tsp. vanilla

Put in desired dish that will freeze. Then spread with a whole container of your favorite ice cream. (mine is Breyer’s chocolate.) Freeze that while you make this fudge sauce:

Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a saucepan, and add 5 heaping tablespoons cocoa, 2/3 cup sugar, 2/3 cup evaporated milk, 1/8 tsp salt and 1 tsp vanilla. Cook and stir until a little thick, at least 5 minutes. Cool slightly, then pour on top of stuff in freezer. When frozen frost with whipped cream and freeze again. I make my own whipped cream with 2 cups heavy whipping cream, 2/3 cup confectioner’s sugar, and 2 tsp vanilla, beating it at high speed until done. YUM!!!!!!!!

I do something really similar. Actually, it’s been a while since I made this. I think I may have changed my method since I typed up the recipe. Think I have been doing a layer of oreos (with margarine), ice cream, layer of oreos, whipped topping, then a few oreos sprinkled across the top.
    ———————-

    Oreo Ice Cream “Cake”

1 (20 oz.) package Oreo cookies
3/4 stick margarine, melted (6 Tablespoons)
    1 (16 oz. ) container whipped topping
1/2 gallon (or 1 similar size container) vanilla ice cream, slightly softened

Chop or crush 2/3 of the Oreos and spread in bottom of 9” x 13” pan. Drizzle melted margarine over cookies, stir, and press in bottom of pan. Slice ice cream about 1” thick and layer over cookies. Use all ice cream, and smooth with spatula. Spread whipped topping over ice cream. You can cut remaining cookies in half and place around edges of pan or crush and sprinkle over top of dessert. Cover and freeze till ready to serve.

My dad’s favorite ice cream pie (he was born in October and it’s sort of Halloween colored). Sorry, this recipe is so old you have to kind of approximate amounts.

    Famous chocolate wafers, crushed
melted butter to make a crust, pushed into pie plate

Then alternate scoops of good quality vanilla ice cream and good quality orange sherbet until you fill the pie plate. Drizzle with semisweet chocolate chips thinned with orange juice and freeze. So good.
