Why You’ll Love This Cheddar Cheese Crackers Recipe

Tips for the Best Homemade Cheese Crackers

  • Use sharp cheddar cheese for the best flavor—mild cheddar just doesn’t deliver that same cheesy punch.

  • For chewy crackers, roll the dough a little thicker.
  • Want extra crispy crackers? Roll the dough thinner and bake a few minutes longer, watching closely.
  • If you have to eat gluten free, be sure to use our Gluten-Free version of the recipe at the bottom of this post!

Storage and Freezer Tips

These cheddar crackers store well in an airtight container for up to a week, and the dough can be frozen for later—perfect for making ahead.

So next time you’re craving something cheesy and crunchy, skip the store-bought snacks and try this easy Cheddar cheese crackers recipe. You’ll be amazed at how quick and delicious homemade can be!

Ingredients

8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
4 tbsp cold butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine cheese, flour, butter, and salt.
  2. Pulse until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  3. Add sour cream and pulse again until the dough starts to come together.
  4. It should still be crumbly but hold when pressed.
  5. Shape the dough into a log, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350° .
  7. Roll dough on lightly floured parchment to about ⅛–¼ inch thick. If you prefer them to be crunchy, roll them thinner, and if you prefer them chewy, like biscuit bites, roll them out thicker.
  8. Cut into 1-inch squares using a pizza cutter or pastry wheel.
  9. Poke a hole in each cracker with a skewer or chopstick.
  10. Transfer parchment and crackers to a baking sheet.
  11. Slightly separate the crackers.
  12. Bake for 17–20 minutes, until golden and puffy.
  13. Cool completely and enjoy!
