Easy Mug Cake Recipe
These quick little mug cakes are ready in about a minute and are perfect when you want a small dessert without baking an entire cake. Mix up a batch of the dry ingredients once, and you’ll have instant cake whenever a craving strikes!
Ingredients
Cake Mix Base
- 1 box one-step angel food cake mix
- 1 box cake mix, any flavor
For Each Mug Cake
- 3 Tbsp cake mix blend
- 2 Tbsp water
Instructions
- In a large zip-top bag or airtight container, combine the angel food cake mix and the cake mix. Shake or stir until thoroughly blended.
- For each serving, place 3 tablespoons of the cake mix blend in a microwave-safe mug or small bowl.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of water until smooth.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute. The cake should be set and spring back lightly when touched.
- Let cool for 1 minute before eating. Then, you have your own instant individual little cake!

- Top with whipped topping.
- Add fresh berries or sliced bananas.
- Drizzle with chocolate syrup or caramel sauce.

This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because it’s easy to remember:
- 3 tablespoons cake mix blend
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 minute in the microwave
One of the mixes must be angel food cake mix, but the second mix can be almost any flavor. Try chocolate, lemon, strawberry, red velvet, spice, carrot cake, butter pecan, or funfetti for endless combinations.
Store the remaining dry mix in an airtight container or zip-top bag at room temperature. No refrigeration is needed.
Tip: Microwave times may vary slightly. If the center still looks wet, microwave in 5-10 second intervals until done.
Allergy Note: Angel food cake mix contains egg whites, so this recipe is not suitable for those with egg allergies.
