1/2 tsp. cinnamon
10-12 slices day-old bread

  2. Mix in milk, sugar, vanilla, salt and cinnamon.
  3. Heat a griddle to medium heat and grease.

Easy Variation: French Toast Sticks

After cooking french toast, cut each piece into 4 strips. Kids love to dip these in syrup.

French Toast Sticks In The Oven

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F–400°F (350°F is commonly used to prevent burning). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and grease generously with cooking spray or butter.
  2. Cut the Bread: Slice 6-8 pieces of thick-cut bread into 3 or 4 sticks each.
  3. Dip and Coat: Briefly dip each stick into the mixture, shaking off excess to avoid sogginess.
  4. Bake: Arrange in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, flip, and bake for another 10-15 minutes (total 20-30 mins) until golden brown.
  5. Optional Topping: While still hot, brush with melted butter and roll in a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon.

Notes

  • If you don’t have day-old bread, lightly toast the bread and then dip it in the batter so it doesn’t get soggy.
  • This French toast recipe tastes great when fried in bacon grease.
