Ingredients

38-40 large marshmallows
1 (12 oz.) package chocolate chips
Sweetened coconut, toasted or plain
Sprinkles
Nuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet or tray with wax paper.
  2. Place the marshmallows on the prepared tray and freeze for 15-20 minutes. Chilling them first makes them much easier to dip.
  3. While the marshmallows are chilling, place coconut, sprinkles, nuts or other desired toppings on separate sheets of wax paper or in shallow bowls. (Wax paper saves time and effort in clean up.)
  4. Put the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth and completely melted.
  5. Insert a toothpick or skewer into a marshmallow and dip it into the melted chocolate, turning to coat.
  6. Immediately roll the chocolate-covered marshmallow in your choice of topping ( suggestions below).
  7. Use a fork to gently slide the bonbon off the toothpick and onto the wax paper-lined tray.
  8. Repeat with the remaining marshmallows.
  9. Refrigerate until the chocolate is firm, about 20-30 minutes.

Notes

Tasty topping ingredients that work well for Marshmallow Bonbons:

Try one topping or make an assortment:

  • Toasted coconut
  • Colored sprinkles
  • Chopped almonds, pecans, walnuts, or peanuts
  • Graham cracker crumbs (for a s’mores flavor)
  • Crushed candy canes
  • Crushed hard candies
  • Finely chopped candy bars
  • Chopped dried fruit
  • Crushed sweetened cereal
  • Mini chocolate chips

Tips

  • If the chocolate becomes too thick while dipping, microwave it for 10-15 seconds and stir.
  • For extra festive bonbons, drizzle with white chocolate after they have chilled.
  • Mix and match toppings to create a colorful candy assortment.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
