Learn how to make a fried egg perfectly, with a soft, runny yolk and tender edges in just a few minutes. This simple method uses butter or bacon grease and a quick steam to create breakfast perfection every time!

Ingredients

1 tsp. butter or bacon grease
1 egg
Salt and pepper, to taste
Toast, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the butter or bacon grease in a nonstick frying pan over medium high heat.
  2. Let pan heat up until butter bubbles.
  3. Once the butter bubbles (but before it browns), gently crack the egg into the pan.
  4. Let the egg cook for about 1 minute, until the edges begin to set.
  5. Add 2 tsp of water to the pan and immediately cover with a lid.
  6. Cook for 1–2 minutes, or until the egg white is set.
  7. If it’s really jiggly, give it one more minute. If you prefer a firmer yolk, you can cook until the yolk is your desired consistency.
  8. Carefully slide the egg onto toast, season with salt and pepper, and enjoy!
