These old-fashioned soft peppermints melt in your mouth with a rich, buttery creaminess and just the right pop of cool peppermint. They’re simple to make, beautifully festive, and perfect for gifting, parties, or holiday treat trays!

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar (plus a little extra for kneading, if needed)
2 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream
1/4 tsp. peppermint extract (adjust to taste)
Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter for about 1 minute until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the heavy whipping cream, peppermint extract, and 1 cup of powdered sugar. Mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the remaining powdered sugar, 1/2–1 cup at a time, until a stiff dough forms.
  4. If the dough feels sticky, knead in a small amount of extra powdered sugar until it’s firm enough to handle.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls, gently flatten each one, then press the tops into sprinkles (optional).
  6. Place on parchment or wax paper and let air dry for 2 hours.
  7. Turn over air dry 1 more hour.
  8. Store in an airtight container.
