Tater Tot Casserole

1 to 2 lbs. hamburger, browned and seasoned to taste
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
8 oz. sour cream
20 oz. frozen mixed veggies, or leftover veggies*
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 lb. bag of Tater Tots
8 oz cheddar cheese or cheese of choice

Gently mix all together but cheese and place in a greased 9×13 pan. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350° for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

*Keep a container in the freezer and, when you have a small dab of vegetables left over, put them in this container. This casserole is a great way to use them up instead of the usual veggie soup.

This is a great recipe.I made one similar to this one.1-2 cans cream of chicken soup, 1/2 -1 cup milk, 1 small can mushrooms or 1/2 cup fresh chopped, hamburger, veggies of your choice, tater tots or broken hash browns. You can also use 1 can each of c.chicken & c.mushroom soup,& leave mushrooms out. The Dollar Tree sells hash browns -5-6 in pack, & also chicken thighs-3 in a pack for $1.00 each -where they have the frozen food sections.I stock up on these every month-It saves a lot. They also have small pks. of bay scallops, great for mixing in with noodles or rice & sauce. And boneless chicken breasts-clear see -through pkg. 4-6 in each-but I haven’t tried those yet. Does any one know how to make homemade dry Jerk seasoning? I bought some once & went to every store -even Ocean StateJob Lot & Christmas Tree Shop- but can’t find any brand anywhere.Thanks.

I make this all the time. It’s great and a little cheaper :) with ground turkey too. Never tried it with the onion soup mix before though. Gonna try that next time. Thanks Tawra.

This is very similar to my Easy Beef Casserole recipe. My recipe doesn’t call for dry onion soup mix, though that sounds good, too.

My recipe originally called for 1/2 of a 2 lb. bag tater tots, 1/2 of a 1 lb. bag of frozen mixed veggies, cream of chicken soup, browned ground beef, salt and pepper to taste, and cheese on top. (I usually stir the browned meat and soup together and spread on tots.) Recently, the veggies have been downsized to 12 oz., and I always liked more tater tots. So when I made this last week I used the whole 2 lb. bag of tater tots and whole 12 oz. frozen veggies. My recipe recommends thawing the tater tots and veggies before starting this recipe, and that makes it much quicker to heat.
