Food Savings

From: Sheila R

I have not found many ways to buy organic food
cheaper, other than food co-ops but they do not
always have the fresh food.
However my tip for saving money on groceries is
this, I buy all baking supplies , including
rolled oats, popcorn, chocolate chips, baking
cups, vanilla, flour, bran , baking soda and
baking powder, spices, pudding mixes ( in
restaurant sized packages) , drink mixes (also in
restaurant sized packages) , basically any dry
good, beans, rasins, etc. these I buy once a year
store in large containers, some I freeze some in
the cold room, all in large quantity . This gets
me through a year, I find it much cheaper than
buying from a grocery store. I also buy our meat
this way too , a side of beef generally does our
family of 5 for the year. When I can I will get
chicken this way too. That way the rest of the
year I can have a weekly budget of $100 or less
to get all laundry, cleaning , diapers ( special
needs child), personal hygiene items and the
everyday stuff, milk , bread butter, cheese, etc.
and even a treat from the dollar store, or
perhaps a lunch out. Hope that those suggestions
may be helpful for others.
