We just needed some burp cloths and we would be all ready for the baby. I really like the look of these but the material is always so rough on their cheeks and gives them a rash. Even the 100% cotton unless it’s really soft it will give them a rash.
I wanted a “pretty” burp cloth since that is one thing you use and see all the time. Most of the store bought “pretty” ones are too rough and there is no way I would pay that much for some anyway. I prefer cloth diapers which seem to work much better and are softer on their skin.
Well I almost succumbed and bought something with my swagbucks gift cards. We have spent less than $100 (around $50 or so) on ALL our baby stuff so I thought I would splurge and get me some new burp “pretty” burp cloths.
Well, a reader (Thanks Gina!) said she had some cloth diapers that she never used and would be happy to send them to me. When they got here mom put a pretty border so now I have my “pretty” but very practical and not scratchy burp cloths!!

So now Baby No-Name K can come any day!! Ok, well, another 1-2 weeks would be better but I’m ready nonetheless!

I kept these simple because I was hurrying to do them but you could make them even fancier by adding lace if you are doing them for a girl or using small rick rack. If you have any little silk roses you could put those on the corners. The sky really is the limit. I did try to be careful because I didn’t want anything to rub on him or make a bump on him.
I did them in those colors because Tawra really doesn’t like “baby” colors so you could make them to match a nursery or to the mom’s color preference.

What a great idea, they are very nice. I’m glad things are progressing well, hope you have a happy healthy baby when God says it is time.
OH HOW ADORABLE…I WISH I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THAT WHEN MY 2 DAUGHTER IN LAWS WERE EXPECTING….WOULD HAVE MADE A NICE SHOWER GIFT….
What a great idea. This would make a great shower gift.
I can’t believe the price on the other ones!
Way to go MOM! These are better than WONDERFUL!
Your burp rags are way cute! I’ve used cloth diapers for the same thing, but mine weren’t nearly as cute.
These are lovely and you are very blessed to have your mom put beautiful borders on them ! I hope the next week or so will be kind to you and I can’t wait to see pictures of little baby K… You and Jill do a great job inspiring us with all the tips. May God bless
Those burp cloths look wonderful! Tawra, you have a creative and loving Mom (but you know that already!)
We’re praying for you and for your little one.
God bless!
Just adorable! A make-do attitude is what our country needs right now. Use what you have, do what you can, take apart and reuse things in new ways. I’m so glad to know you and your mom through this blog! You inspire me that I can have better and nicer without spending more - and even though I am bucking the retail trends - I am not weird! I am wonderfully finacially peace filled and properly prosperous in family and fun!
Very cute.
WOW!!! Those are so amazingly beautiful. Your Mom really has talent. These just gave me the best idea for futute baby shower gifts. Blessings to you and your family.

Your pretty burp rags are awesome, and what a nice thing for one of your readers to send to you! Our youngest child is 11 and we STILL have old burp rags that we use for one thing or another (dusting, big napkins for real messy meals, etc.) An investment in a dozen prefolded diapers is one well made, in my opinion.
I laugh to myself every time you mention your ‘no-name’ baby! When our second child was due (29 years ago)we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl, but we had names picked out. Our boy name was STEVE. So, when the nurse handed him to me I said, “Hello, KEVIN”..haha! It just clicked the moment I held him and looked at his little face. I think you’re right about waiting to see your new baby before naming him. Can’t wait for your little fella to get here!
They look fantastic very cute idea…
very cute indeed! can you post some specific directions for those of us who might like to duplicate your idea? they would make a splendid baby shower gift.
These are cutie-lish! WTG Jill! What a neat Idea! I will be spreading the word about these. Such a great a great idea for a simple and much needed gift for any new mom. :o)
I know you already have these but thought Id post my suggestion for anyone who this could help.
For me and my lil ones who have had reflux, I use the recieving blankets that come in packs of 3 usually. They are bigger and when folded in half keep me from being wet. They are also soft enough to have never bothered my lil ones. One bonus is they can come in very pretty patterns.
I like decorations your mom added to these. They are very pretty.
I noticed in the second picture you have the name Jack embroidered on the burp cloth is that the new babies name?
That isn’t his official name. No matter what we name him we will call him Jack for a nickname. Tawra’s daughter loves that name and it is also my brother’s name.

These are adorable! Now I can use up all of those miscellaneous scraps of fabric that I can’t bear to toss.
Hope the new baby arrives soon and both of you are doing well.
These look so pretty. I am going to make some for my daycare baby.
Those are adorable!! I wish I had thought of that when my kids were babies. My mom has a patten for burp cloths that are contoured to fit your shoulder (narrower right on top, then flare out to cover the maximum shirt area possible!) and she makes them out of flannel - which is both soft on the face and absorbant. There are some very cute flannels out there now adays.
I, too, used cloth diapers for burp cloths but I never thought to decorate them. Yours are way cute! God bless your family and baby. Jack is a nice name–I think it is meant to be his first name!
Jill, I appreciated your interview about using credit cards. I seldom use them, because my husband asked me not to, but he does! I had never thought about credit cards and God’s will that way. You are right about them–they can be evil. Thanks for your willingness to speak out for God.
These are so cute. Think I’ll make some for my grandson that’s due in August. I call him Little Buddy until he gets his name!
i love the baby burp cloths… i love the colors!…
…

and to add some lace or even embroider some flowers (for a girl) would be cute too… you could also sew on those patches with the disney characters (or animals) too…
these make wonderful gifts for the new baby…
jill, you are soo awesome!

Good Afternoon to all!
He didn’t want to be in a wheelchair when they graduated high school
Anyway, I started getting rid of baby stuff as my second child was done with it.
I just thought I would also chime in on really how little you actually need for a new baby. I am currently pregnant with my third child (due in September). After our second child was born, we decided we were done having children as my husband is 47
Evidently, we were supposed to be blessed with three children instead of just two and I have none of the early baby stuff. The clothing sizes I have even start at 2T. We have spent $40 at this point for a carseat, swing combination which came with two bases. I will still need bottles and a few clothing items, and we still need a crib matress as my soon to be 2 yr. old will go into a toddler bed. So we are looking at maybe another $60 if I have to buy everything new.
I think what has changed with this child is that I REALLY know what I NEED versus what I WANT. I too have bounced around the idea of cloth diapers, even if it is only part of the time…the jury is still out on this issue as I have a 5 and 2 yr old to deal with too. But my point is that since I know what I need and even what I want, peer pressure and advertising doesn’t factor in in the least to make me think I need something that I don’t to take care of this child.
I was starting to get anxious about not having found a swing or carseat (especially the swing because i found with both of our older daughters this was a godsend until they were about 6 months old. But I digress, I was starting to get anxious about finding these two items in a decent condition and was stressing over the thought of having to buy them new. I kept praying that I would find what we needed however. And lo and behold my husband and I were driving past a yard sale and right there in front of our eyes was a perfect condition, infant car seat, two car bases, and a swing that the carseat clicks into for $40. So what Tawra and Jill said about being patient and KNOWING that the lord will provide really is key. so anyway, sorry this go long, but it is a subject very near and dear to me at the moment. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!
