I am looking for some good kids websites. We don’t really get around much on the net and I could use some recommendations.
My daughter went to barbie.com and was really enjoying it. Then she clicked on some “American Idol” songs and I about died! They were completely inappropriate for a 7 year old.
My daughter loved the sound of the songs and likes the sound of “older” songs not the Twinkle Star kid type songs.
Can anyone give me any suggestions of music clips for kids or any other good kid websites.
She was really disappointed when we wouldn’t let her listen to it and I told I would ask “all my friends” on the net.
She loves music and these were cute videos but I don’t really want my daughter going around singing “I’m not that innocent”.

Well….you could try RadioDisney.com. I have never seen/heard a Britney Spears song there (yet!) and my autistic 9 yr. old LOVES IT. BillyBear4Kids.com is a great site for kids and SAFE with the content. Eileen

We’ve had to quickly turn the dial away from Radio Disney for the same reasons you mentioned, Tawra, but we really like Focus on the Family’s kids’ sites:

They also have wonderful sites for pre-teens, teens, college-age, parents, marrieds, singles, single parents, plus trustworthy movie reviews…..and much more.
Public libraries will often have links to children’s sites through their websites. Also try PBS.org and the links through there. As with anything, check it out yourself before letting a child on. You’re doing great!!

My Wonderful Husband had another great idea:
Try listening to any radio station in the world by way of Streaming Audio!
We especially like our local station,
wgnr.org (Central Indiana),
which is Christian and commercial-free. Has wonderful children’s radio theatre on Sat. mornings and Sat. evenings, too.
Good for you for being so careful about what goes into those precious, impressionable young minds and hearts!
I don’t think that children should have access to the internet at all with all the pornography that is on it. We have an older computer for the children to play games that we have bought and approved of. Children need to play outside and get fresh air, exercise, and sunshine. Or, play real games with family and friends. Think of all the money you can save when they aren’t asking for what the TV and computer’s are telling them that they need to be happy…what garbage!!!
We are also careful of what kind of music they listen to too. Some soundtracks are good and we like Andre Rieu’s Classical music and the music of the Daughter’s of Mary. The young children like “Cowboy” music…not the “Country” music of today. They like Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, Gene Autry, etc. Irish dance music is good too.
At any rate…we can’t be too careful in what our children see and listen to today.
It take’s very few brain cells to watch something like TV or the computer…get them interested in reading the good old classics and listening to real music and you will see their grades go up in school.
