Garden's Are Growing
We are able to start enjoying the fruits of our labor. I was able to pick radishes the other day and now the lettuce, spinach and onion tops are ready for salads!
I don't think we are doing too badly considering we've had 3 hailstorms and frost here in the last month! This has been a wonderfully cool spring so it's been nice being able to work in the garden without having a heatstroke! LOL Usually by this time of year we are already starting to run the a/c for an hour or two in the afternoon. I'm not going to complain one bit! I love this cool weather.

Hey just subscribed to your newsletter and so many great things in it! Thank you! our situation is that my dd has a ton of allergies so these past few years we've fought to keep food costs under control.. To us "under control" for a family of 5 is about 1K a month... a TON of money - ugh. we now grow the majority of our own produce and shopping is no fewer than around 8 stops each weekend. Our garden has supplemented us wonderfully but it's so hard.. AND it's tiresome shopping for so long when we have so little time with our families (other times spent on the road to various therapies - ugh).. ANy ideas or thoughts on how to save on organic foods? My dd is gluten/casein free (as is my son) as well as corn and soy.. pear, apple and chicken, rice are also allergens but numbers are low enough on latter, that we can have a bit! UGH.. Sooo hard... Our budget for groceries went thru the roof initially but fortuanately over the years we've learned to deal. I think actually our 1 k is probably pretty decent but would love to hear from you.. Any saving tips much appreciated. We obviously never eat out and when we vacation we take a cooler with our own food (ugh....)..
thx
Leigh

When growing your own lettuce and spinch how do you know when it's time to pull and eat? Or do you trim it and let it to continue to grow? We tried growing this years ago and didn't pull in time and it turned to seed and tasted bad. Thanks for you help!!
Just start picking as soon as the lettuce is big enough to eat.
You just pick off a few leaves and then let them grow back, pick off more etc. until they grow bitter and flower. They are both a cool weather crop so if you have hot summers only grow in the spring and fall.
