Kids and Chores
People often ask how to get kids to help out. One thing we do is expect them to start helping when they are around 3. I never have a problem with kids hollering about doing chores (yes, I'm knocking on wood as I speak LOL) but they know that it's expected of them.
Also, I ask nicely and say please and thank-you. I think tone of voice is what kills a lot of people when it comes to getting their kids to do chores.
A list is most helpful. Kids like to see what needs to be done and they want to get it all done fast so they can go on to other things.
Let them help! It won't be perfect but they can start learning. Here's David dragging their laundry to the laundry room. He is always so proud of himself! LOL

One thing that my kids enjoyed was a "job jar." I'd write the jobs that needed to be done on slips of paper, fold them, and put them in a jar. The kids took turns picking jobs and doing the job they picked. Somehow that made chores much more fun. Sometimes I included fun things like "eat a piece of chocolate" or "get a hug from mom."
Hi Tawra.
Pictures of completed projects have really helped at our house.
I helped the kids get their bedrooms in top shape, then took photos of different parts of the room like the bookshelf, end table, FLOOR, bed, etc. When cleaning, I have them look at the photos and try to make it look as close to the photo as they possibly can. Sometimes I say, "Can you find the clean part under the mess? It's there if you try." Having a visual example has been helpful for them to see the goal of the finished job.
Now please understand, that they are only children and it isn't a perfect plan for a perfect job, but it is a helpful addition to the family home.
