How I'm doing.
I had people ask how I'm doing with the nutritional doctor.
It is helping with some things but not others, so far.
Right now I'm on:
pre-natal vitamins
Vitamin E
magnesium
Omega 3
Chromium
Iodine
Ribose
The first 4 are helping me sleep better and my FM pain is much less. It's not gone but it is less. I would say my pain level has gone from a 10 (being take me to Heaven now) to a 6 (I would still like to go but I can handle it if I'm still here. :-)
The Chromium has helped a lot with the sugar cravings. I know that if I can get off that then it will help . I am giving it a go again trying to get off and am on Day 3. I hope that I can get to day 4 or 5 and start feeling somewhat better.
The Iodine I am taking because we think my thyroid might be low. I have had a low temp. around 96.6 and that can be a sign of a low thyroid. My temp is going up and right now I'm at 97.7. We are shooting for 98 so hopefully I will be there in a month or two.
The ribose is a supplement that is supposed to help you have more energy. Even though my pain is lowered I still have no energy and pretty much don't feel like doing anything. I keep forcing myself to try and keep up but it's really hard. If I could just sit and doing nothing all day I probably would. If the ribose doesn't work in the next week I am going to try taking 5-HTP.
I have started walking or doing floor exercises for 15 minutes a day also. Keeping my muscles moving is helping with the pain. I am doing it in the morning after the kids go to school that way I won't have the excuse that my feet are hurting too bad and won't do it.
My foot pain has been helped some by the inserts but not a lot. I would say I've gone from a 9 to a 7. I am beginning to wonder if I wasted $400 on the inserts and new shoes. I am going to go back again to the foot doctor but I have a feeling that he probably can't do much until I get the extra weight off. Right now by 2 or 3p.m. it feels like needles are being shot into my feet. I can put on my Crocs and that does help.
So that's where I am at the moment. I am moving forward but not very fast which is frustrating but I am going to keep trying new stuff until something works. :-)

A few friends and I are doing well with pain management by taking Quercetin. My holistic doctor give this to her patients with FM and it works wonders for people with Arthritis as well. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I also have FM, and many other auto-immune diseases. Once you have one, you are prone to get others. I find besides taking supplements that also taking a good quality fish oil has helped a lot with pain and over-all health. Work your way up to a dose your body can tolerate, and continue. I take 4-5 before I go to bed. I don't have as much pain at night and I rest better. Hope this helps. Jeanne
Tawra, I had heel spurs or plantar fascitis several years ago. Is that what you go the inserts for? If so, it took several months of the inserts and wearing good shoes all day everyday before mine quit hurting most of the time. Even then, they would flare up if I went without shoes. Now, I can go without shoes for short periods of time, but I usually don't for long for fear of another flare-up. Don't give up, hopefully they'll start helping soon.
Tawra,
I was also diagnosed with plantar fascitis over 4 years ago. My doctor gave me cordisone shots in my foot and convinced me to purchase custom orthodics for $400 (fortunately, the insurance paid for most of it). I was told that the orthodic inserts would take about 4-6 months to get used to. Needless to say, I had them for over 2 years (until I accidently threw them out) and I never got used to them. I eventually lost 30 pounds, and my plantar fascitis is 95% much improved. As far as your low thyroid, my husband has thyroid problems, and he gets his thyroid tested to adjust his medication as needed. I don't know why your nutritionist/doc is guessing that your thyroid is low as opposed to getting you tested.
I know that chronic paid is a very difficult thing to deal with and I wish you the best of luck with your health issues.
