Fingernail polish

I would like suggestions for which fingernail polish actually stays on!

My nails are finally nice and long. I only have long nails for about 3-4 months of the year because gardening comes before nails for me. :-)

So right now I'm enjoying my long nails but I went to polish them and the polish started chipping in less than 24 hours! Augh!

I got the super duper stays on forever polish, I got a good base at Sally's Beauty Supply and a hard topcoat and it stills comes off. I've even tried the expensive salon stuff. Opi I think it's called.

So any of you ladies know a good polish? I'm tired of wasting money on polishes that just chip off and I'm sure my readers are too!

I'd love to know of one that works too. I tried to "save" my polish by wearing those big old rubber dishwashing gloves today. TTTHHHHHPPPPTTTTT...it didn't work. My hands got all sweaty inside the gloves and half of the polish chipped off. I can't win! Argh!

I have had pedicures where they have used OPI polish, and they didn't chip for 4 weeks. In my opinion they are the best. Another good one to try is Essie - you can get that at the beauty supply store - comes in great colors.

try to use a extra-extra fine buffing block on your nails before your polish (buff, then wash and dry nails). I worked in a salon and a manicurist I know used this and everyone raved that their polish stayed on .

I use "Sally Hansen Maximum Growth Nourishing Nail Color" I bought it at Wal-mart for a few bucks. I wear it for 3-4 days before it starts it wear off. I work in child care at a Major St. Louis Hospital, so I wash my hands all the time. I have found that the more layers I put on the easier the polish chips off. So now I save time and only go with one coat. Hope this helps.

Well, I know this isn't exactly frugal, but the only way I've ever been able to keep my polish on (and it lasts for about 2 weeks with no chipping) is by having acrylic nails. Bad, I know, but it works for me. Otherwise, that polish just doesn't seem to stick to smooth nails (those acrylics are sort of porous). And the Opi brand with the color called Cajun Shrimp is gorgeous!

Have you talked to a manucurist to see what they use to keep polish from chipping? I know that my manucurist is awesome because I have horses and clean stalls and rarely wear gloves and my nail polish stays on wonderful!

There is a brand called "Ashkenazi" which you can buy at almost any good salon. It isn't expensive either. Good luck and let us know if this brand works for you. It lasts on my nails for about 4 weeks and it makes the nails stronger, too.

I'd recommend waiting 'til it goes on sale, but I've found ColorStay by Revlon to be one of the few products in that line that actually stays on.

It comes with a second bottle that's a top coat...and it's on half-price sale fairly often at Meijer and Walgreen's near us (Central Indiana).

It's great to hear from a fellow gardener that her long nails are short-lived....and are much less important to her, too, than having fun digging in the dirt! :-)

TAWRA, I USE THE SALLY HANSON TRIPLE STRONG ADVANCED GEL NAIL FORTIFER FROM WAL-MART. IT IS IN A GREEN BOTTLE AND COST AROUND $4.97 I PAINT MY NAILS AND LET THEM DRY GOOD AND PUT THE TRIPLE STRONG NAIL POLISH ON AS A TOP COAT BECAUSE IT IS CLEAR. IT WORKS VERY VERY GOOD. I ALSO PUT THIS ON OVER MY TOE NAIL POLISH AS A TOP COAT AND IT LAST UNTIL I CHANGE NAIL COLORS. THANKS, LINDA

If your nails have any water or moisture - but especially if there is any oil, lotion, even natural oils from your skin the polish will definately chip off. Wash hands after trimming and filing nails and dry them well. THEN use a cotton ball or Q tip to lightly rub some pure rubbing alcohol over them briefly. Air dry and do not touch your nails with your fingers. Apply base coat and polish in THIN coats and do not worry if the coats show a little thin in areas at first. After two coats it should all look well covered anyway. Let the nails dry well between coats - DO NOT TEST FOR DRYNESS WITH FINGER TIPS. That adds oil between the layers. Oil = chipping. Just look at the clock and be patient for 3 minutes each layer. Then add a thin top coat. Tomorrow you can add lotion to your hands or cuticals. Try it and let me know how well it lasts. - Pamela Spicer, Scotia NY

The new AVON dry nail enamel strips work really well. I could never get polish to stay on til I used these. I have turned several people on to them. Once you get the hang of it it is great because they dry instantly!

Try lemon juice before and after you paint your nails. Just rub onto hands like hand soap, focusing on the nail area. You may rince your palms but try to keep the lemon juice on as long as possible. The juice will naturaly harden your nails and polish. Have fun with your long nails while you have them hun. Good luck.
