Call the companies!
I have to admit, I am getting tired of cheap products made in China. I would pay twice as much if a product would just last like they used to. I had to call two different companies last week.
I still love my new vacuum but I have a problem with it. The filter was clogged and I washed it out according to the directions and let it air dry.
Well, the silly thing molded on me! Augh! I was so mad. I called Hoover's 800 number and of course they said that I had to make a toll call to talk to a person. I did and told the lady what happened. She said "you will just have to buy a new filter." I told her that the vacuum was only a month or two old and I shouldn't have to buy a new filter because I followed the directions on their instruction manual. She then passed me to a supervisor.
I gave the same story again. She said that I was supposed to air dry it in the sun and that I would just have to buy a new one. I quoted her the directions in the manual and told her I shouldn't have to buy a new one because I followed the directions. She finally said in a very sarcastic voice "we will send you a one time complimentary filter but after this you will have to buy them." I said that they should have put the directions correctly in the manual in the first place and she told me that was before Hoover sold out to them. I asked what company this was now and she told me Dirt Devil.
Well, now Hoover's on my blacklist! I HATE Dirt Devil. I have never once had a product that worked from them and their customer service is HORRID! Oh well, I just hope this vacuum won't have anything major go with it!
For the second one:
BJ got one of those ice cream balls for Christmas. He just HAD to have one. I personally thought it was a waste of money but if that's what he wants then ok.
Well, the thing broke after using 4 times rolling on the carpet! Augh! I called the company and had to talk to 2 different people but they did send us another one for free. They wanted me to pay $10 for shipping but I told them I shouldn't have to pay shipping on something that didn't even last for 4 uses! I personally think this is a one of the bigger wastes of money and if you have kids I wouldn't get one but the company did pull through in the end which I think is great.
So, in the end it always pays to complain. I must say that I do get tired of complaining but it just irks me that they won't make decent products anymore!

AMEN!
Same problem with a different brand of vacuum cleaners. The on button won't work to go off when I press it! This damn thing isn't even 6 months old!
I will be using the warranty and ask for a new one.
I agree with you, when you buy something these days, you just can't expect it to work for a certain number of years! Drives me crazy!
Someone gave me a very old vacuum cleaner, the only inconvenient is that it is heavy, but it works perfectly, and you can see the plastic is much better quality!!
Thank you, Tawra. That explains why our "Hoover" doesn't perform like a Hoover (used to). I would never have guessed that they are owned by Dirt Devil.
