Ha! So True!
Ok, normally I don't get into this kind of stuff but after all the whining people we've had lately with people telling us how they can't afford Christmas gifts, food or clothes as they are talking on their cell phone at Applebee's I just couldn't resist.
Being frugal means using your money wisely and making the most with what you have! In a America that is a lot, even for the poorest of people.

The ant and the grasshopper
OLD VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."
Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.
Nancy Pelosi & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.
Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote.

This story is very true. No one wants to own up to the fact that they do themselves in. Everyone needs to look after themselves. God will provide but you must help yourself.
So true. So true. Nice to see it in print. Roxie
I love the modern ant/grasshopper story - it's soooo true!!
Love it, love it, love it! I'm printing it out and hanging it in my kitchen! My husband and I are very lucky people and live quite nicely - however, there was a time where we worked 4 jobs between us and went without alot of things. Now that we're comfortable, people love to make comments about how "easy" we have it. I feel for the ant! As a side note (being from Massachusetts) I love the stick to John Kerry - not all of us over here think he and Kennedy are the be all end all.
TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for being brave enough to share this.
This is too funny! I am sure there are some people out there who have really had unfortunate accidents that have caused their problems. heck, we were prepared for the worst with an almost $10,000 EF, but when you then have $11,000 in car repairs and several thousand in medical bills in 1 year, suddenly we have no cushioning and are starting over from scratch with being prepared. We are doing everything we can to build up our EF, however we keep having more unexpected expenses like a $1200 double root canal.
Anyway, I mean to say that some people do prepare and still end up needing help, but most people that require assistance in the US haven't done a whole lot to help themselves over the years.
OH LORDY!!! I love this!!!
My feelings exactly! Thanks! Ceil in Mobile
How refreshing the truth is! I work in a public library and I get so tired of all the harping about the 'wonderful Clintons' and how awesome Hillary is that I just want to scream. Reading this made my day! Angie
I love this modern version. Love it.Love it.
Who wrote it?
My husband and I have worked very hard over the years to get where we are now.
And yet some people think it was easy for us,but oh so hard for them to save a penny. It makes me mad. Too many people look to the government for hands out.
I'm all to give a hand up to some people but not a hand out.
