No Sugar!!??? Now What????
Just shoot me now! Well, I'm sorry I've been missing for awhile. Things have been rough here getting ready for back to school shopping, the kids in swim lessons and trying to get unpacked. To top it off I went to the hormone doctor last Tuesday after waiting four months to get in.
I was never so encouraged and discouraged at the same time. I was discouraged because I spent $185 for her to tell me that to start she wants me to keep a PMS Chart, cut out all sugar, corn and white carbs, exercise and take some over the counter vitamins from the compounding pharmacy and then come back in 10 weeks! Augh!!! Why didn't they just tell me that when I called 4 months ago and we could have been to step two by now. I have been so sick and I am sure it's my hormones and thyroid making my CFS and FM worse and another 10 weeks seems like an eternity.
I just wanted to cry when I left. I went to the pharmacy and got the mega vitamins and primrose oil ($60!!). I told him that I was going to see a doc in TX and he asked who. I told him the name and he said that he's one of the best. I asked if I should have gone to him instead and he said "no your doctor is just as good as he is". So I feel much better that she does know what she's doing and just starting by eliminating stuff. I just wish they would have told me that 4 months ago! Oh well it's at least a start. Now I'm just trying to figure out what to eat. The good news is I've lost 6lbs. already.
I did get David in Pre-school. I am so excited! He will go 4 mornings a week. He is such a social butterfly that I think he will just love it. Mike will be working this month on a special show for the TV station so I will have the house all to myself in 10 days and 12 hours but who's counting. :-)
Well, that's the short version. I will try and write more later. Hopefully I can keep up better in a few days! Tawra

Why didn't she tell you that 10 weeks ago when you made the aapontment? Simple answer...because then they could not have charged you $185.00..
I have a good doctor. I trust her very much. However there is one thing about the office that makes me crazy. You go in for your regular yearly exam...they run the tests etc. Then instead of calling you with the information if it is GOOD...you have to make another appointment, pay another office fee, take time off the job only to find out everything is normal..see you next year....that I don't like. I could see going in again if a test was not normal. But when everything is okay, they do not even let you see the doctor, just her nurse....that makes me up-set. Yes, I have told the doctor that too. No it has not done any good. Roxie
Here, in Ontario, Canada, I have a great family clinic.
I can't complain. And when I have to see a specialist, the first time, it might take about 4 to 6 weeks unlesss it is quite urgent, then they'll book me right away). After that,it is very easy to get another appointment.
And I don't pay a red penny. I don't understand why americans put our health system down. From what I read here, ours seems a lot better.

Dear Tawra,
I hope this plan works for you. When I read that the doctor eliminated sugar and white flour, I immediately thought of Suzanne Somer's books. She just wrote one a few years ago about hormones : Slim & Sexy forever: the Hormone Solution. Maybe they might be able to help you.
Good luck with everything!

I have been off sugar and wheat for nearly 2 years, lost 50 lbs., and feel so much better. When on occasion, I do 'try' something with sugar, I feel awful and I have not been tempted with anything with wheat so far unless I didn't know it was in there. I have Crohn's, FM and Arthritis. It has made a difference!
Oh, the refined carbs and white sugar are so bad for your blood sugar and your hormones! I hope that cutting them out helps you to get your health to where you want it.
One of my favorite "cookies" uses unsweetened applesauce (1/3 c.), bananas (3), oatmeal (2 c.), milk (1/4 c.), raisins, vanilla (1 tsp) and cinnamon (1 tsp). Chewy, but great for a "quick" breakfast with no unnatural sugars. I'll buy up the clearance bananas and make a huge batch to freeze some.
Also, look up some information when you get a chance on the glycemic index. It might help you figure out what to eat.
And even breads that claim to be wheat bread often are simply enriched flour with coloring to make it brown. You want whole wheat, no refined flours. Read your labels, or get out that breadmaker!
Tawra, I am no expert and coming from the subject from the opposite direction. I have hypoglycemia and have just started to take it seriously because I have developed some thyroid type symptoms.
You may find these sites helpful. One of them has a glycemic index.
