High EfficiencyWashers
I have to say that this is on my list to get as soon as we can save up! Tawra

I just discovered your site/newsletter a few
months ago and I wanted to thank you for all the
great info & tips. I also wanted to share my
washing machine story with you. It's a bit
long - I apologize for that. Our washer died
suddenly & we bought another from Lowe's
scratch & dent.
While at Lowes, my husband & I
discussed my "hatred" of the front loading
machines. They are ridiculously expensive, just
a fad, look like a laundry mat... We got home
with our "new" washer & discovered it had no
plumbing inside it! What a mess it made and
back to the store it went.
My husband returned
it without me and came home all excited because
he had bought us "A Machine!". Yes - the
dreaded front loading type! I was furious! It
was expensive, bla bla bla and I went on ranting
& raving about how much I didn't like that
type. Well, I am eating some crow now!! It is
the best invention ever!! It easily washes 2 or
3 times as much as our old washer.
We were concerned about our old dryer keeping up because
it barely dried the old smaller loads, but the
new front loader washer spins the clothes so
much dryer, I am now able to dry twice as many
clothes in 20 minutes less time! It also uses
only a fraction of the water the old machine
used. We were having problems with our
drain field because of our old washer, but it's
no longer a concern. (I feel for Tawra on that
one!! LOL)
It does require special detergent,
and while it is a little more expensive than
what we'd been using, it works out to be cheaper
because I'm using less. It also requires a
fraction of the fabric softener and bleach. So,
now, instead of doing 2 or 3 loads of wash every
day, I'm averaging 5 loads a week. I can't
believe how excited I am about a washing
machine, but I am. I imagine it will pay for
itself in a year with what we save on electricity
alone.
Sorry this was so long winded, but I wanted to
pass on my story in case someone else out there
is in need of a new washer. The front loader is
SO worth the cost. Specially if you get a
scratch & dent model. Ours was originally $999
and we got it for $500.
Thanks for letting me ramble on about washing
machines... LOL

I agree! The drying time is about half, at least. Our new front loader, is helping our "old" dryer cut time by half or more. Our water bill had gone down too. Instead of softner I add white vingear. Sounds awful, but has done the trick.
Yes, Tawra, it is 100% true. We got a new front loader washer a year ago last July. I swear to you my water bill went down more than $23.00 the first month and has been at least $25.00 lower each month. I keep my water bills in a file and have checked the bills against the bill from the same month last year and it is lower. I use the HE soap and have been able to buy the ALL brand for a very good price. It does a great job. I hang dry our laundry 99% of the time and it is dry very quickly because it is so dry coming out of the machine. It does wash a much larger load than our other machine. I can do 12-14 pair of jeans in one load without a problem at all. I think anyone with a septic tank should have one of these washing machines. It does really save on water. Roxie
I use vinegar too. I don't use high efficiency detergents though. I find that regular detergents work just fine, as long as I use only a little bit, and I also add borax and baking soda to just about every load I do.

Regarding the reader whose dryer was barely able to dry a load from the old washer... Make sure the venting system is 100% clear. That includes the vent tubing, the flap to outside, and the screening to catch lint. If air flow is obstructed, the dryer works poorly.
I, too, looked at those front load washing machines and thought "There is no way I'm going this ugly thing".
Now, that I'm reading all those positive testimonials, I'll think twice before I buy my next machine which won't be that long now.

We bought a front loader washer several years ago when we built our house and I will never go back to a top loading machine. We have a well so I'm not sure abou the water consumption but I'm sure it's less. I use Cheer laundry detergent and even though they have a high efficiency detergent I have found that if I use half of the regular amount it works great and I get twice as many loads out of a bottle.
I agree. It was really worth the cost! It uses less water, washes more clothes and they are practically dry. I love mine!! Also, I, like the other reader, use regular detergent, just less. A tip the store salesman gave me, and use a little baking soda with it most of the time. I have no complaints!
I have a front loader and do not use any special laundry detergents. I just use about 1/3 to 1/2 of my usual soap.
I adore mine! And I too, gulped about the cost...but I tell you what...this baby spins so hard that my clothes are practically dry when they come out, and the little bit of water that it uses is amazing to me!
I use regular detergent, 1/2 of the normal and then water it down alittle..to make it not so thick.
Love it, didn't think I would...so glad my hubby pushed this issue!!
