Saving on hand soap
Hi Tawra & Jill,
I just read your laundry tips. I have one
for using less hand soap from a pump bottle.
Usually, one 'pump' uses more soap than is
necessary for washing your hands, especially for
children. I put a rubber band, looped until
tight, around the base of the pump. the pump then
goes down only half way, but still gives an
adequate amount of soap. This makes the soap last
twice as long.

Another reason for not diluting liquid soap is the perservative issue. If you add water to a product like that this the perservative will not be effective and can cause bacteria to grow.

Another great option is to buy one of those expensive foaming hand soaps. (I think dial makes one.) Then when the solution runs out make your own. Mix 1 part hand soap or dish soap with three parts water. Viola-- works exactly the same as the original product, but it is significantly cheaper, and kids don't make such a mess with it.
If you can't figure out where to get the foaming hand soap, Pampered chef makes a dispenser called the "suds Pump". You can e-mail me if you need details on ordering from Pampered chef.
