Confessions of a Tightwad and What we've been up to.
Well, I must confess. My tightwadness just flew out the door the other day. I can't believe I did this but I spent $100 on shoes!
I admit I am having buyer's remorse. It was a really dumb thing to do!
I went off my medication that helps my muscle pain because of the side effects. I have been in really bad pain. My legs and feet have felt like they are on fire and every other part of my body hurt so bad that it was even hard to sit back in a chair and lift my arms. I've been in tears almost every night it's been so bad.
That is part of the reason we are trying to decide if we should keep going with this business. I have been so sick and in pain that I'm not able to do much.
So last week on the way to the doctor I stopped by a shoe store to try on some SAS and ECCO. Well neither one of those worked but they did have a New Balance that felt good. So in a moment of despair I bought them! Augh!
I went to the doctor after that and he put me Prednisone, Lyrica (new nerve pain killer) and narcotics. Well, even after being on all of that my pain is reduced but not gone by a long shot. The Lyrica takes 2-3 weeks to really start working so we will see but now that I'm back in my right mind I can't believe I did I that!
I'm just posting this so you will know that I momentary lapse of money management stupidity myself! :-)
As for our new projects:
We were working hard on the budgeting e-book and mom's story before Elly got hurt. We have run into a snag in that mom's story doesn't really have a "happy" ending at the moment. We aren't sure how to finish it and we aren't sure if people will actually want to hear some of the things she went through. So we are trying to figure out what to do with it. If we should keep going or just wait and not finish it right now, we aren’t sure which.
I am working on putting together 5 e-books with all our articles, The Best of Living On A Dime. We have had several requests for it and it looks like it may be done by the New Year!!! Yeah!!!!
As for the budgeting e-book, that is next on the list after I get The Best of Living On A Dime done. I think I will combine my how to transfer credit cards e-book and the budgeting e-book together. (I think. :-)
We were going to put a short version of mom's story in the budgeting e-book but we were asked by the couple of people who reviewed the first draft to put her budget in there. The problem is the numbers just don't work out on paper. Every month it's a miracle that she pays her bills so no one would believe it.
So that is where we are at the moment. Hopefully in 3 weeks we will have 5 new e-books out and ready for you!! Yeah!!!
Elly, is doing very well! She is asking to ride her bike and we are trying to keep her from "flying" down the stairs every time she goes to her room! :-) We go in, in two weeks for a check up but it looks like a full recovery!
That's all for now. I just thought I would get my un-frugalness off my chest and you all know how we are doing.

Tawra please keep the shoes. Your dedication to your family and the frugal cause is admirable, but with all the pain you go through you certainly are allowed the one thing that eases your discomfort.

Being a single Mom with 3 children, 100 dollars might sound extravagant. HOWEVER, you do only have ONE pair of feet to last your entire lifetime. Pay more for good shoes with the support you need to save $$ in medical bills down the road. (got my NB 843 online w/free shipping for 84.00 where they were 100 in the shoe store) Blessings to you all!
p.s. I'm a waitress!
Sorry you are not feeling well. I hope and pray things get better for you and your meds do the trick. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.

I would agree. On the occasions I have bought shoes at Nordstrom, they are always WELL worth it. I have a pair of clogs that I have been wearing for going on four years now, wearing them all but the warmest months of summer; a pair of dress shoes I have worn practically every Sunday also for nearly four years, and a pair of basic leather sandals, ditto. Still in beautiful shape, no worn heels or broken straps and they still FEEL GOOD. Also if your new shoes do fall apart unexpectedly, you will almost certainly get a replacement pair. No way will Payless and other discount shoe places do that. I even had trouble getting a pair of my son's sandals replaced at JC Penney a couple of years ago.

I DON'T MIND YOUR MOM NOT HAVING A HAPPY ENDING WITH HER STORY, MOST OF US DON'T ANYWAY. IT WILL SHOW READERS THAT THIS FRUGAL LIFE IS A JOURNEY. GOD CALLS US TO BE HOLY, AND LIVE IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES HE GIVES US WITH A THANKFUL HEART.

Those are the exact shoes I got! It's good to know that at least I didn't get a horribly bad deal on them. I would have really felt bad if they were $50 on the net! :-)
Yes, I need them and I know it. It's just hard to put money into something like shoes. I am so hard on shoes it seems like they just wear out fast for me.
Anyway, thanks for the .02! I feel somewhat better. :-)

Hello, this is Roxie. I am sorry you are not well. I say prayers for you and the family.
Tawra, keep the shoes and don't feel guilty. Life is too short for guilt. Maybe the reason you 'are so hard on shoes' is because you are not buying shoes of good quality. I am not putting you down at all, please don't take it that way. But the reason some shoes cost more is because they are made better. The shoes you got for $100.00 will be wearing well in a year and I am sure you will have gotten your money's worth.
As for your mother's story not having a happy ending, well yeah, it has not ended. She is a live and paying her bills and somehow she makes do. That is part of the story. It would not be a TRUE story if it had a story book ending where all of a sudden life was rosey on $500.00 a month.
One of the things I admire most about you and this site is that it is REAL. About a real family, paying bills, and living in the year 2006 and not going over the edge with credit card bills and two people working night and day and kids in day care..(funny coming from me when I do day care as a living)
Take care of yourself. Pamper yourself. Remember your husband and children need you. God bless you for all you do. Don't let guilt over a pair of shoes get to you.
