One problem solved.

I just had to share that we have figured out one of our constant illness problems. Mike has always had a hard time breathing. Not bad, he just was always taking deep breaths all the time. We thought it was allergies. The doc said it was asthma but the meds didn't work.

Well, we discovered he is sensitive to MSG. The whole time and we never knew it! He has been off it for a week now and hasn't had a breathing problem since!

God was good in showing us that! It's been a problem for years, we just couldn't figure it out.

I remember once going to a Chinese restaurant that used so much MSG the whole side of my body went numb for a short time. I wouldn't put MSG in anything after that! I just don't see the need for it.

I have heard of serious reactions to it. But what foods does one typically find it in besides Chinese?

It's in EVERYTHING!
It's under different names sometimes. Hubby printed out a list of all the names.
So far we have found it in
pizza,
mac and cheese
seasonings
salad dressing
cereal
ice cream
lunchmeats
hot dogs

I mean just about anything that is processed in some way has it in there.

What's frustrating is I always knew that MSG gave me horrible headaches. I thought I was staying away from it but now I realize that is why some days I have been having bad headaches and didn't know why.

It's looking like we may have to make everything. Won't be too hard. I have most of the recipes in Dining On A Dime but we do buy some convienience foods that we will have to stop getting.

I never knew that MSG came under different names. I'm going to have to figure out what those are. My son sometimes gets headaches (he's 23) and maybe this is the reason. We eat very, very little processed food--but all it takes is a little bit of something bad to cause troubles!
