House Advice
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions on our house.
We do have a CO detector and it hasn't ever gone off. We can't find any trace of mold anywhere. Not on the window seals, walls, in the crawl space, no where. The downstairs bathroom does sell moldy so I am thinking it must be hiding under the shower if it's there. Mike looked on all 3 walls (one is open to the utility room) and couldn' see any on the inside of the walls.
We lived in one rental house that had horrible mold. When we took off the base molding it was black under it! It was bad!
Anyway.......
We are about to go crazy trying to figure it out. I was down doing and "extra good" cleaning of the kids room and my nose started getting stuffy about 15 minutes after I was in there. I know there is something going on, we just can't figure out what.
The kids have a 4 inch ledge in their room around the wall. We all sleep in the basement. It's a bi-level and the basement is half above and half below ground. I tried taking off the molding to see if there was any leakage from the foundation but it was sealed off so I couldn't see in. We may just cut a hole in the drywall next to get a peek.
I just wanted to update everyone where we are with this.

Are the rooms that are giving you fits carpeted? It MAY be the padding under the carpet.....
When we took up the carpet and padding in our bedroom, it was old and started to crumble. I thought I was going to have to call 911 as I start to stuff up, wheeze, then my throat felt like it was closing up. I ran outside and was able to finally breathe...but it was really scarey.
Carpet padding can deteriorate very badly......
Just a thought.
Tawra,
Look all around and under your water heater. My sis discovered mold around hers after peeling away some wood, it had had a small leak for a while.
Tawra,
Do you have a furnace? If so, when was the last time the ductwork was cleaned? We bought a house in which the previous owners had allowed their cats to roam in the ductwork. You get the picture...

Is there any chance that you are chemically sensitive? My daughter and I tend to both be rather sensitive to cleaning products, air fresheners, candles etc. I once consulted with a doctor who suggested that we, like her, get rid of all scented cleaning products, personal care products, candles, perfumes and the like. The fragrances that are added to products are many times petroleum based and are very bothersome to some people. You said that you were "cleaning" when you started feeling sick so I wondered if you too may be sensitive to the cleaning products.
Just a thought.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
The carpet is newer. Not brand new but about 3 years old so I don't think that's it.
We have looked all around the water heater etc and the ducts were cleaned when we moved in.
It's just the craziest thing! Last night it was cold enough that the heater ran all night and I didn't have any problems but Mike and BJ said they still did.
I just don't know what to think!

I'm not sure if these ideas will work, but am just wanting to help you and your family solve this problem!
These may be things you've already tried, but I'm wondering whether the county and/or state Health Departments could provide diagnostic and/or treatment services--and for free.
Also, since God has made you guys so good at researching things, I wonder whether the EPA would be of any help, either via its Website or its staff members.
Praying for a solution for you all!!
Hi, Tawra! It may be your carpet , all carpets outgas& you said it was newer carpet. Have you had your home checked for RADON gas ? You could use just baking soda, vinegar to clean your home , all cleaning products are hazardous to your health. Did you ever get that book I recommended about environmental illness? Lisa wilson
