If you can't pay a bill, call.

Mike forgot to pay a credit card bill the other day. It was due in two days and the site was down and he couldn't pay it online. He called and asked if they would extend the due date and they said yes.

If you can't pay a bill on time, call and ask. Usually if you ask they will be more than willing to help if it's not done on a regular basis. We have done this with credit cards, the utility company and medical. If it is a real hardship and you were laid off or lost your job they are usually happy to delay payment for a couple of months and set up a payment plan.

The main this is TO CALL THEM! They are much more willing to work with you if you call them before you have to start missing payments then after you have missed several.

You may not want to admit that there is a problem but it's better to admit it to the credit card company or mortgage company than it is to a collection agency!
