? about Rebates

I recieved this email from a reader that I know. A little background, she's an in-home daycare provider for 3 or 4 kids plus her 3 kids (I think). Her family has been under a great deal of stress and financial pressure lately.

Hi Tawra,

....our financial situation is looking pretty
bleek right now too.

I have a question for ya. How does the Walgreen's rebate work. I
remember reading in one of your emails about you buying some kind of
products there and then sending something in. Can you give me the
details on that ?

Thanks,

Holly

Hi Holly,
It's pretty simple as far as rebates go. Each week they have something different on sale for free with a rebate. You buy the item or items and then at the end of the month send all the receipts in with one rebate form they have. You do need to make sure that you make a copy of the rebates and receipts in case there is a problem.

The drawback is... I can get $30 worth of stuff for just me and if I send one for my mom and SIL I can get $100 or so worth of stuff. I usually purchase the items for all three of us and send in the rebates myself and then we split up what each of us can use.

But..... (you knew it was coming didn't you :-) for those same products if I were to buy the equivalent I could get them from the store for probably $10-$15 if I purchased the store brands and I didn't buy the things that I didn't need on the rebate (like some of the hair colors, lipsticks and make up, a person can only use so much). It is fun to get some of the new things like the different body wash fragrances etc. but I could find a better deal just getting the store brand which also has many fragrance choices.

Personally with the amount of stress that you are under I would try to find a bigger way to save. I don't know exactly how you spend your money but making sure that the big things like eating out, shopping for things you don't need, new cars, even movie rentals or cutting the cell phone and such would probably save you more money.

Rebates can be a great source for free products but in your situation it may not be the best way.

I hope that helps some. When you are drowning it's hard to get your head above water enough to see the hand that is trying to save you!!
